No, sadly, heaven hasn’t decided that it can wait after all for poor, ill-fated General Hospital casualty Brando. But Brad Schmidt, who filled in for Johnny Wactor in the role in 2022, is back on the show, rocking the jailhouse as Book, the scariest avid reader in all of Pentonville.
The actor has appeared in everything from Yellowstone to The Chosen. But Book is the character for whom he’s likeliest remembered by daytime fans. Maybe not fondly but for sure remembered, ’cause once ya meet the guy, ya don’t forget him. How could you, considering that he got his seemingly innocuous nickname after weaponizing a dictionary to leave a victim comatose?
Schmidt debuted as Book back in the fall of 2022, when he targeted Spencer for taking his coveted job in the Pentonville library. To protect the Cassadine heir — and save his own hide — Cyrus planted a shiv on the violent inmate and got him packed off to solitary.
In July of this year, Book, holding a grudge as tightly as he might any bestselling novel, got into it again with Cyrus. This time, halo-clad convict Drew rode to the rescue but not quickly enough to keep Laura’s half brother from having a heart attack and paying what some might say is an overdue visit to hell.
