General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) always likes to stay engaged with fans on social media and see how they’re feeling about what’s happening on-screen. After what went down in GH’s March 29 episode, there’s certainly a lot to talk about!
During a conversation with Jack Brennan (Charles Mesure), Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) divulged his shocking plan to tank Sonny’s mental health by tampering with his bipolar meds.
If it works like Valentin’s expecting, then Sonny could lose control and commit crimes that’ll put him behind bars.
It was quite a story twist, so viewers had plenty to say about it.
As a result, Maurice Benard decided to address the topic on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Benard is a very vocal mental health advocate, so he clearly gets why there might be some backlash from a storyline like this.
At the same time, Benard acknowledged that this is a fictional show and not real life.
Soaps are all about bringing drama, so Benard is seemingly hoping that fans can accept that, too.
“There’s a lot of talk about what’s going on on the show,” Benard said as he responded to a fan. “Some talk about mental health. We have to remember it’s a TV show. It can’t always be perfect.”
Benard also admitted he’s having a blast with his current material, which is definitely giving him something to flex his acting chops.
“But I will say this, I haven’t had this much fun acting in a long time !!!” Benard gushed in the rest of his post.
Despite the reason for Sonny’s out-of-character behavior, Benard has still been getting some complaints.
One fan even called Sonny “insufferable,” so Benard acknowledged that Sonny’s up against a lot right now.
“It’s tough when you’re not taking the right dosage of medication Believe me, I know,” Benard said.
