God in AmericaMONDAY, OCTOBER 11
‘God in America’ (9PM, PBS) miniseries premiere
This six-hour miniseries, which airs across three consecutive nights, traces the history of religion in America, which seems especially timely given the recent hubbub surrounding the “Ground Zero Mosque” in New York. Producers use documentary footage, historical dramatization and interviews with religious historians to paint the timeline, beginning in the 1600s when Franciscan friars tried to convert the religious beliefs of Pueblo Indians in New Mexico through the Puritans and the idea of religious freedom to more modern times, including the Scopes Monkey Trial, Billy Graham, Martin Luther King and Jerry Falwell.

‘Chuck’ - Tonight’s episode involves a vacation, Armand Assante and a 10-foot statue of Captain Awesome, which, of course, is awesome (8PM, NBC)

‘Giuliana & Bill’ - The couple continues their baby quest by undergoing in vitro treatments (8PM, Style) season 3 premiere

‘Carlos’ - The three-night miniseries follows the notorious career of assassin and terrorist Carlos the Jackal (9PM, Sundance) miniseries premiere

‘Gossip Girl’ - Serena’s life becomes ever more complicates when Gossip Girl strikes with an e-mail blast that shares some scandalous Serena scoop with Ms. Van der Woodsen’s Columbia classmates (9PM, The CW)

‘Reviving Ophelia’ - Inspired by the bestselling book of the same name, the flick tells the story of a teenage girl who, despite her seemingly idyllic life and family, won’t break away from her abusive, controlling boyfriend (9PM, Lifetime)

‘Castle’ - Castle’s dealing with time travel and secret societies when he tries to help solve the murder of a mathematician (10PM, ABC)

‘Hawaii Five-O’ - McGarrett’s estranged sister (Taryn Manning) visits just as he’s trying to track down a convict (Balthazar Getty) who kidnapped a young married couple (10PM, CBS)
