It’s a good day for discerning gorehounds: Season 1 of AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ hits DVD and Blu-ray today. (Didya enter our giveaway yet?) Both sets feature all six season 1 episodes of the hit zombie-apocalypse drama based on the graphic novel by Robert Kirkman.
Kirkman even co-wrote a few episodes, including the haunting and suspenseful installment ‘Tell It to the Frogs,’ which saw lawman leader Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) finally reuniting with his family after fending off gobs of hungry, undead Atlantans.
Filmmaker Frank Darabont (’The Mist,’ ‘Shawshank Redemption’) is the mastermind behind the show’s artful mix of panic and pathos. Darabont pops up in a producers’ convention panel and a “making-of” featurette on the season 1 DVD and Blu-ray special features (sorry, no commentary).
The highly anticipated second season of ‘The Walking Dead’ premieres later this year, but the short first season should satisfy your zombie fix for now.
