(S07E20) ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ began on a giddy note after today’s landmark legal reversal of Prop. 8, which prompted Adam Shankman to ask Nigel Lythgoe to marry him. (Nigel accepted, but then broke it off after they disagreed about Kent’s disco routine.)
Kent’s overly bouncy disco was declared his “worst performance ever,” a statement that prompted loud boos from the audience, but fear not, Kent fans. By the time the final routine of the night was danced, the Ohio boy was back on top, with an intensely emotional, contemporary routine choreographed by Travis Wall.
Kent danced again with his ‘Damn Yankees’ partner Neil, and the palpable heartbreak in the routine (which Travis admitted was very personal), made it feel like we were watching a real break-up. Mia was close to tears and Adam told a still-somber Kent: “If this were the finale, you would have just won.”
Tomorrow night, the lowest vote-getter will go home and, as Cat pointed out, the judges are no longer in a position to save anyone. It’s now all up to the voters.
