Quick Hits: ‘The Avengers’ May Nab Cobie Smulders to Play Maria Hill

  • Unlike a lot of filmmakers, Wes Craven actually tweets pictures of what he’s working on, and we appreciate that:
  • According to Deadline, Cobie Smulders who was a top pick for ‘Wonder Woman’ when Joss Whedon was in charge of that movieis the current frontrunner to play S.H.I.E.L.D agent Maria Hill in ‘The Avengers,’ which is the mysterious female role that Samuel L. Jackson alluded to earlier this week while on the Jimmy Fallon show. Hill is a tough, aggressive, no-nonsense former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and if her storyline follows that of the one in the animated series ‘The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,’ Hill will be “a central member of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a protege of Nick Fury serving as his second-in-command and being explicitly taken for tasks.” (via Wikipedia)

  • Summit has just picked up a pitch from the writers behind ‘Life As We Know It’ called ‘Unexpected.’ The story? After a couple finds themselves with a surprise pregnancy an “untimely run-in with an ancient fertility totem” results in the father and the mother switching bodies. Yep.

  • BAD tells us that Jaume Collet-Serra (’Orphan,’ ‘House of Wax’) is now involved with ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula Project,’ a spec script from the duo who who wrote a ‘Captain Blood’ remake set in space and the King Arthur retold script, ‘Pendragon.’

  • Though he believes no one can top Gary Sinise from the ‘94 miniseries, Stephen King does offer up a few suggestions for actors he’d like to see in the new, big screen adaptation of ‘The Stand.’
