Meatloaf - VH-1 Storytellers

He has made a career conquering stadiums and arenas around the world, but for one night Meatloaf scales down the production for a VH-1’s Storytellers. In an intimate studio setting, Meatloaf talks about the stories and inspirations behind his classic songs, including 5 (out of the 7) tracks from the RIAA Diamond-certified album “Bat Out Of Hell”. The show features an extra 53 minutes that did not appear on the show when it aired on television. Featuring the songs…All Revved Up With No Place To Go, Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad, A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste, You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night), I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That), Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through, More Than You Deserv [Read More...]

This review is from: VH1 Storytellers - Meat Loaf (DVD)

I have eagerly anticipated many DVD releases in the past - but none more so than this. Meat Loaf’s VH-1 Storytellers is described as “One of the biggest intimate experiences that you’ll ever have…” and it certainly is. In fact, I would go even further to say that this show defines entertainment. I watched the show on television, and although I enjoyed it, I knew that too much lay on the cutting room floor. As one reviewer has already said, “you just can’t edit Meat Loaf”. The locker-room setting creates a wonderful ambience, coupled with Meat Loaf who is clearly loving every moment as much as the audience. His voice, in my own opinion, has never sounded better - and this is also true of his wonderful band. (Patti Russo’s sound and performance just has to be witnessed.) Together they beautifully blast out many of his classic songs. (If you think that Meat Loaf is just about Bat Out Of Hell, well, oh how mislead you are! Either way, in my opinion, he gives the best ever captured performance of this song on Storytellers. He just gets better! ). Meats storytelling is captivating. His interaction with the audience is deep, and his ability to act into a character is incredible. One fine example is Meat reading the original story lead into “More Than You Deserve”. So few words, but yet so moving. You can see why Meat is so successful in Hollywood. The show will make you cry, but more than anything you will laugh. He’s a very funny guy! So what I didn’t like? A couple of songs are still missing; “Lawyers, Guns and Money” is one. I would also like to have seen all the new songs, especially, “Is Nothing Sacred”. The disc is encoded for Region 1 only, being British, I also had to invest in new DVD player, but it was worth it! Now, I just wish that record companies would wake up and release more of Meat Loaf Live. Id love a DVD of his recent arena storming concerts across Europe, and a “Best Of” DVD. Meat live is a phenomenon especially in the UK, so why no new releases? Im eighteen, and haven’t seen or heard enough of the guy!

What a musical DVD! This is one of the musical DVD’s that makes DVD really worthwhile. While the DVD is a little “too chatty”, the music is great. Meat Loaf is great and Patty Russo as the lead female is outstanding. She has a great complementary voice on several songs and has incredibly expressive eyes. If you think Meat Loaf is old news, think again. This DVD is one of those select DVD’s that makes surround sound and DVD really worthwhile.

I use to “Like” Meatloaf. Now I “Love” Meatloaf. This VH1 Storytellers is by far the best one yet. Not only do you hear great music during it, you also get to know Meatloaf and his family and the struggles they all went through. You walk away with a great sense of love and admiration for this man and his music. He is truly Larger then Life! Sit back, relax and have a box of kleenex handy. This is definately a MUST see!
