Guests on ‘The Colbert Report’ (weeknights, 11:30PM ET on COM) didn’t get customary glasses of water during their appearance on the show. Since they were there to discuss the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down Chicago’s handgun ban, they got guns.
While speaking with Ilya Shapiro of the Cato Institute, Stephen Colbert said, “You know what, I’m a terrible host. Would you like a gun?” and pulled out a handgun from under his desk. “Doesn’t that make you feel comfortable?”
“It does,” Shapiro said, thanking him and adding, “Not that I feel that threatened by you, Stephen.”
“I tell you who should feel threatened — you, young lady,” said Colbert, turning to Jackie Hilly, executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence. “Would you like a gun, too?” he inquired.
“No, thanks. I’m fine without one,” she responded, unsmiling and unfazed. In her opinion, so not funny.
