At first, the news sounded oh, so sweet as my eyes flitted across the roster of names. First up: “Slater” — as in Christian Slater, one of my favorite actors from my younger days, who I’ve been hoping would find some better gigs. Second, there was “Oldman,” as in Gary Oldman, the wonderful actor who has embodied everything from Dracula to Beethoven. Third … “Cook.” Not “cook,” like the other two are going to be chefs and give us another great foodie film, but Dane Cook, the guy often slammed for joke thievery, whose starring gigs — Good Luck Chuck — are nothing to get excited about.
