On ‘The Colbert Report’ (weeknights, 11:30PM ET on COM), the host and author Andrew Hacker discussed the value of a college degree. Apparently, there is no value, as the lengthy title of his book reveals: ‘Higher Education? How Colleges Are Wasting Our Money and Failing Our Kids.’
So Stephen Colbert asked the crucial question: “Do you have to go to college to be successful?” Hacker replied, “You have to go to college to become, as it were, ‘one of us,’” noting a sharp cultural divide between those with degrees and those without.
Colbert tried to stump the author with his strategy to break the divide. Not so fast: Hacker had a great comeback.
